NEWS 11-08-2019. NEWS FOR 12-AUG (MONDAY) 1. Lok Sabha will become paperless from next session. 2. The Unnao rape case has been moved to the Delhi high court and the victim has been compensated with a sum of Rs. 25 Lakhs. In the Unnao rape case a teenager was allegedly raped by BJP MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar. He is also charged with the murder of her two aunts and the victim’s attempted murder. The MLA is now in jail. 3. According to Economic survey 9.5crore toilets have been made and the centre has declared that India will be ODF by 2nd October. 4. Article 370 and 35A, under which Kashmir was given a special status, have been abrogated with the accent of the President. Kashmir is now a UT with a legislature and Ladakh is another UT without any legislation. 5. Sushma Swaraj, former external affairs minister passed away after suffering from a heart attack on 7th August. 6. Saudi Arabia has allowed their females to travel without male guardians. Recently they had permitted their women to drive. 7. UAPA (Unlawful Authorities Prevention Act) has been passed. Under the present act, any individual can be declared a terrorist. Previously, only organizations could be declared terrorist. 8. Centre has declared entire State of Nagaland a ‘disturbed area’ for a period of 6 more months under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) with effect from 30 June 2019. 9. Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd (KRAS) has secured $100-million order from Israel’s Rafael for manufacturing 1,000 Barak-8 Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) Missile kits for Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. 10. Hima Das aka ‘Dhing Express’ has created history by winning 5 gold medals in a span of less than three weeks at Athletics Meet in Prague.11. England defeated New Zealand to win the 2019 Cricket World Cup. It was a very debatable match and drew a lot of criticism. However the match went till the last ball. 12. Triple Talaq Bill known as Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 has been passed in the Rajya Sabha with 99 votes in favor and 84 against. This is a historic victory for Modi Government. The Triple Talaq bill was tabled in the upper house of the Parliament by Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 aims to ban and criminalise the practice of divorce among Muslims by simply stating Talaq three times. 13. India signed Rs 1500 crore deal with Russia for the R-27 air-to-air missiles. The objective of this deal is to boost the capabilities of Indian Air Force (IAF) in beyond visual targets.
