National News

1. The Govt has decided to double the daily allocation of 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders for migrant labourers across states to improve access to affordable cooking fuel.
2. Odisha has emerged as a leading state in implementing AMRUT 2.0. AMRUT stands for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, a central govt scheme aimed at improving urban infrastructure, especially water supply, sewerage systems and green spaces in cities.
3. India entered Stage-2 of its Thorium based nuclear programme after the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam achieved first criticality on 6 April 2026. This makes India unique as it has the world's 25% of Thorium reserve & its dependence of Plutonium from foreign countries may no longer be required.
4. Indian Railways approved projects worth ?1,364 crore to strengthen safety, signalling and communication systems, including the installation of the Kavach automatic train protection system.
5. The Ministry of Railways aims to complete Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) by March 2027 for three proposed bullet train corridors: Hyderabad–Chennai, Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Patna–Siliguri.

Defence News

1. India’s defence exports increased by about 62 % in FY 2025–26 to around ?384.2 billion (about $4.1 billion).
2. The BSF is considering the use of reptiles such as snakes and crocodiles in vulnerable riverine areas along the India–Bangladesh border as an unconventional measure to strengthen border security.
3. The Indian Navy has intensified maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz to protect energy tankers carrying fuel to India. The mission, called Operation Urja Suraksha, focuses on escorting and safeguarding Indian-bound vessels in the region.
4. The Ministry of Defence has announced plans to collaborate with one of two European consortia developing sixth-generation fighter aircraft to strengthen India’s future air combat capabilities.
5. INS Aridhaman, a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, has been commissioned into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam.
6. The IAF is planning to develop hydrogen -powered autonomous airships called Medium Altitude Heavy Lift Airships. These pilotless platforms are expected to operate at around 30,000 feet and carry payloads of up to 5,000 kg for surveillance and logistics missions.

International News

1. Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Khalilur Rahman arrived in New Delhi on a three-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
2. Iran & USA have accepted a Pakistan-brokered proposal for a 2 week temporary ceasefire.
3. India has confirmed the purchase of Iranian crude oil after a temporary pause in United States sanctions, marking an important development in global energy trade.
4. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it shot down a United States aircraft that was reportedly involved in a rescue mission for a missing F-15 fighter jet crew member.
5. 7 Indian-flagged LPG tankers have successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz heading towards India. It is a huge Indian diplomatic victory.

Sport News

1. India continued its strong performance at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026, with eight boxers, six women and two men, reaching the finals in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
2. Indian archer Shyam Sunder Swami won a bronze medal in the compound men’s individual event at the World Archery Para Series in Bangkok after defeating fellow Indian archer and Paralympic bronze medallist Rakesh Kumar in a tie-break.
3. India finished at the top of the medal tally at the ISSF World Cup in shooting with multiple gold medals, continuing its strong performance in international shooting competitions.
4. Indian badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty reached the final of the men’s doubles event at an international badminton tournament, maintaining their position among the top-ranked pairs in the world.
