National News

1. India’s Census 2027 began Phase 1 on April 1, 2026, marking the country’s first fully digital census.
2. The Gujarat Assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill through a majority voice vote.
3. Indian Railways commissioned the Kavach Automatic Train Protection System on the Prayagraj–Kanpur section of the Delhi–Howrah corridor, enabling safer 160 kmph operations.
4. Reserve Bank of India reported India’s forex reserves fell by $2.5 billion to around $619 billion due to global currency fluctuations.

Defence News

1. The IAF has begun work on its first helicopter-dropped drone project named “Vayu Baan”.

3. DRDO has entered the testing phase of Project Kusha, India’s long-range surface-to-air missile programme, with successful initial trials of the M1 interceptor variant.

International News

1. Israel carried out airstrikes on South Pars Gas Field in Iran—the world’s largest natural gas field—marking a major escalation in the ongoing conflict and triggering global energy concerns.
2. The United States hit key sites on Kharg Island, marking a major escalation in regional hostilities.
3. Russia plans to suspend gasoline exports for four months from April 1, 2026, to secure domestic supplies and stabilise fuel prices.
4. Cross-border trade between India and China via Lipulekh Pass is expected to resume in June this year, reducing the time & money spent in transportation.
5. Indonesia has become the first Southeast Asian country to ban social media access for children under 16 to regulate digital platform usage.

2. International Cricket Council named Smriti Mandhana as ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, recognising her outstanding international performances.
