*National News*

1. Govt has inaugurated India’s first semiconductor outsourced assembly and testing pilot plant in Sanand, Gujarat.

*Defence News*

1. India successfully carried out the maiden flight test of the indigenous Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the Odisha coast. The system can neutralize enemy aircraft, drones, and missiles up to 35 km.
2. Over 700 Indian armed forces personnel are participating in Exercise Bright Star in Egypt, which includes tri-service drills, command post exercises, and modern warfare training.
3. At the SCO Summit, India strongly raised the issue of the Pahalgam terrorist attack in J&K. All SCO member nations unanimously condemned the attack, expressing solidarity against terrorism.
4. The 21st edition of the India–USA joint military exercise Yudh Abhyas 2025 commenced in Alaska.

*International News*

1. India and Bangladesh agreed to intensify cooperation against trans-border crimes through enhanced vigilance, coordinated patrols, and real-time intelligence sharing.
2. India and Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to boost collaboration on critical minerals, strengthening supply chains vital for clean energy and technology security.
3. Indo-African trade crossed USD 100 billion in 2024-25 with India among Africa’s top-five investors.
4. India rushed humanitarian aid, including 21 tonnes of relief material to earthquake-hit Afghanistan, where the death toll has crossed 800.
5. The UN Security Council decided to end peacekeeping operations in Lebanon, where nearly 1,000 Indian troops are currently deployed.
6. Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel has been appointed Executive Director of the IMF for a three-year term.

*Sport News*

1. National Sports Day was celebrated on 29 August to mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
2. India won a ‘double gold’ in the Men’s 25m Standard Pistol individual and team events at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan. At the same championship, India achieved a historic feat by topping the medal tally for the first time with 99 medals — 50 gold, 26 silver, and 23 bronze. Kazakhstan stood second, followed by China.
3. India topped the medals tally at the 25th Commonwealth Senior Weightlifting Championship in Ahmedabad, securing 13 medals, including 4 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze.
4. India officially submitted its proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, aiming to bring back the multi-sport event after two decades.
