1. Universal Social Security Cover for 45 crore workers: Govt of India has decided to gradually introduce an all inclusive Universal Social Security Cover for 45 cr workers in unorganized sector in India.   The Social Security will cover loss of income; death and disability; illness and medical bills; unemployment benefits. The government will contribute for the poor, while others will compulsorily contribute as per the income slab they fall in. Presently,only10% population works in organized sector and are entitled to earn social security cover. 

2. Loksabha passes Maternity Benefits (Amendment) Bill:  Maternity Benefits (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was passed in the Loksabha. Rajyasabha has already passed it in 2016. According to it, working women in all establishments with more than 10 employees - public or private, will be entitled to get 26 weeks paid maternity leave for two children. With this, India stands third in granting number of weeks for maternity leave after Canada and Norway.

3. Westinghouse will build Indian nuclear reactors with Larsen & Tubro: Westinghouse of US will collaborate with the Indian giant Larsen & Tubro to build six nuclear reactors in Andhra Pradesh.   

4. BrahMos Missile’s range extended upto 450kms: A new BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, with an extended range of 450 kms was successfully test fired. The Land attack version of missile flies at three times the speed of sound (2.8 Mac).
