News : 10th March,2017 1.  INS Viraat decommissioned on 6th April 2017: Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier and the world’s longest serving war ship - INS Viraat, was decommissioned on 6th April 2017 at Indian Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. INS Viraat was first commissioned as HMS Hermes in British Royal Navy in1959 and served as it’s flagship during Falkland war in 1982. It was commissioned in Indian Navy on 12th May 1987. In it’s glorious 27 years service to India, it played an important role in Operation Jupiter, conducted by the Indian Peacekeeping forces held in Sri Lanka in 1989 and in Operation Parakram held in 2001-02after terrorist attack on Parliament of India. 2.  India to run a Trans-continental Goods Train from Dhaka to Istanbul : India will run a trans- continental goods train from Dhaka to Istanbul. The train will travel 6000kms long Trans Asian Railway Southern Corridor, spread across Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. During it’s journey from Dhaka to Istanbul it will halt at Kolkata, Delhi, Islamabad, Tehran.  Eventually, it is planned to extend it upto Yangon in Myanmar. 3.  Drug discovered to treat Superbug diseases: Scientists have discovered the anti-protozoal drug pentadimine. It when used in combination with antibiotics, was found to be effective against two of the three pathogens identified by WHO as ‘Superbugs’. Superbugs are pathogens that have developed resistance to all known antibodies. 4.   Pakistan’s couter terrorism operation - Raad-ul- Fassad: Pakistan has launched a nationwide string of counter terrorism operation named ‘Raad-ul- Fassad’ to dismantle jihadist infrastructure across the country. It comes as a response to string of terror attacks which happened in 2017. Recently, in the terrorist attack on the Tomb of Lal Qalandar Shah in Sind province killed more than 100 people and injured more than 300 people. 5.  India beats Australia in 2nd test cricket match: In the ongoing cricket test series between India and Australia, India defeated Australia in the second match held at Banglore. It’s main highlight was 6 wicket haul by R Ashwin for 41 runs. Both, India and Australia have won one match each in the series.            < < Back
