Vidayalaya,Chattisgarh has developed a
new variety of protein enriched rice. It has 3% more protein and has 30 PPM
(parts per million) zinc content than any variety available in the market.
This protein rice variety
will prove a boon for malnourished population, especially children, in
tribal-dominated Chhattisgarh.
2. The Union Ministry of Railways has declared the Okha – Kanalus
and Porbandar –Wansajliya railway sections of Gujrat as Green Train Corridors.
Green Train Corridors are sections of the railways that will be free of human
waste discharge on tracks by the use of biotoilets.
3. India has signed agreement with Russia to lease second Akula –
II Class nuclear attack submarine worth 2 billion dollars.
Earlier Akula- II class nuclear attack
submarine was leased to India for 10 years which was inducted in Indian Navy as
INS CHAKRA. It’s lease expires in 20121.
4. India has won the 2016 Kabbadi World Cup by defeating Iran by
38-29 score in the final match played in Ahmedabad This is India’s 3rd
consecutive Kabbadi World Cup. The previous tournaments were won by India by defeating
Iran
5. The Union Govt launched
UDAN(Ude Desh Ka Am Nagrik) Scheme with the aim to get more people to
fly to smaller towns. The UDAN scheme seeks to provide connectivity to
un-served and under-served airports of
the country. The scheme is likely to
give a major fillip to helicopter and small aircraft operations along with
tourism and employment generation in hinterland.
6. The National Commission of Women has held that ‘Triple Talaq’
was a highly misused custom and appealed to the Govt to scrap it to protect the
rights of Muslim women. Triple Talaq is an arbitrary law under Islamic law body
called ‘Sharia’ which allows a husband to divorce his wife by pronouncing
‘TALAQ’ thrice. The Central Govt has filed affidavit in Supreme Court held that
practice of Triple Talaq is against gender equality, justice and dignity enshrined
in Constitution.
