NEWS 29-09-2022. News For 30th-Sep (Friday) *Defence News* 1.The IAF has achieved 95 per cent self reliance in the supply of spare parts for the maintenance of its critical assets and has thus saved Rs.600cr in the past five years by using indigenous items. Meanwhile India is planning to manufacture 4.2 Lac indigenously made carbine worth Rs.5000cr for the Army, Navy & AF. 2. The Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), transported indigenously developed Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle (QRFV) to the Indian Army. 3. Navies of India and the U.K. participated in a two day bilateral Passage Exercise (PASSEX) in the Bay of Bengal. 4.Udarashakti, a four-day bilateral exercise between India & Malaysian AF was recently conducted in Malaysia. 5. India recently handed over a Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft to Sri Lanka Navy. *National News* 1.India exported around Rs 1,387 crore worth of defence-related exports during the first quarter(Apr-Jun) of the financial year 2023. In contrast, in the whole FY yr 2022 the exports was at Rs 12,815 crore. 2. Kochi is set to become ship repair hub of India, with a Rs 970-crore International Ship Repair Facility being built on Willingdon Island. Meanwhile US Navy Ship Charles Drew recently arrived at L&T’s Shipyard at Kattupalli, for undertaking repairs. This has added a new dimension to the India-US strategic partnership. This is the first-ever repair of a US Navy ship in India, providing a huge boost to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. 3. Malaysia has shortlisted India's Tejas under its acquisition programme. USA, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, Indonesia, Philippines & Colombia have also shown interest in 'Made-in-India' LCA Tejas. 4. L&T has taken the first step in producing Green Hydrogen in Gujrat. Initially it is producing 45 Kg of Green Hydrogen daily to be scaled to 800 KW. 5. Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama has been honored with dPalrNgam Duston award. It is the highest Civilian honour of Ladakh. 3. China and Nepal recently gave their consent to construct “Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network". China will also give an assistance of USD 118 million to Nepal, to undertake several projects in 2022. 4. The 22nd Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham, England. India finished fourth in the medals tally with 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals. 2. India's Chirag Shetty & Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won bronze medal in the Men's Doubles Badminton Semi-Finals of the BWF World Championships in Tokyo. 3. FIFA lifted the suspension of Indian football federation which it had imposed following third party interventions.
