NEWS 14-08-2022. News For 15th-Aug (Monday) 1. The Government of France has decided to bestow the highest French civilian honor - Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur to Mr Shashi Tharoor. 2. Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama has been honored with dPalrNgam Duston award. It is the highest Civilian honour of Ladakh. 3. Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is on a four-day visit to India. It has come at a time when India's neighbourhood is in turmoil. 4. Pakistan will attend SCO counter-terror drills in India: Foreign Office. The exercise scheduled to be held in Manesar in Haryana will see participation from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, besides India. 5. China and Nepal recently gave their consent to construct “Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network". China will also give an assistance of USD 118 million to Nepal, to undertake several projects in 2022. 6. Kochi is set to become ship repair hub of India, with a Rs 970-crore International Ship Repair Facility being built on Willingdon Island. 7. US Navy Ship (USNS) Charles Drew recently arrived at L&T’s Shipyard at Kattupalli, for undertaking repairs and allied services. This has added a new dimension to the India-US strategic partnership. This is the first-ever repair of a US Navy ship in India, providing a huge boost to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. 8. India is preparing to lease six Tu-160 long range strategic bombers from Russia. It is a four-engined bomber, capable of an operational range of 12,000 kilometres. 9. Malaysia has shortlisted India's Tejas under its acquisition programme. USA, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, Indonesia and Philippines have also shown interest in 'Made-in-India' LCA Tejas. < < Back
