The Defence Ministry has cleared the proposal to
raise 600 new UAV squads consisting of 3 UAV, a ground control system & a
heavy vehicle. These squads would be attached to each infantry & armoured
battalion of the Indian Army.
View:
1. These UAV’s will have a limited range of 10 km which would be a vital source
of intelligence for ground troops thereby enhancing the efficiency of the units
in dealing with the enemy.
2. This plan would also be a boost for the private
industry.
3. The Army currently relies on information from
other units that operate longer range UAV’s like Heron & Searcher of
Israeli origin, this would be an alternative for them & would be made in
India itself.
