French company DCNS is likely to work on Ocean
Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) project in India under the Make- in- India
scheme. This is likely to create 4, 000 jobs over a span of 4-5 years. The
Indian Navy too is planning to set up an OTEC plant on the Andaman Islands off
Port Blair.

These OTEC projects will generate energy by exploiting the difference in
temperature on the ocean surface with waters deep below. This project, if
successful, will prove to be a large reservoir of renewable source of energy
for India, as we enjoy a 7500 Km of coastline.
