Govt. Is planning to bring in a Constitutional amendment to increase reservation for women in gram panchayats & urban local bodies from 33% to 50%. This amendment would be brought in by a Bill to amend Article 243(D) of the constitution.

View: With the Constitutional amendment being brought in, this would make it binding on all states to bring this initiative in force. This would be another step to bring in women empowerment & to bring them at par with their male counterparts.
