Union Railway Minister, Mr. Suresh Prabhu presented his 2^nd Railway budget on 25th Feb 2016.

Highlights of the budget

·        No hike in passenger fares.

·        17000 bio toilets will be constructed in the current financial year.

·        Increased quota of reservation for senior citizens (50%) & women (33%)  

·        Wi-Fi at 100 stations this year & 400 stations next year.

·        Enhanced e-ticketing system

·        IRCTC to manage  catering service in a phased manner

·        GPS based digital display in coaches for showing upcoming stations.

·        Open cancellation facility through 139 helpline no.

·        Introducing bar- coded tickets

·        Lowering Freight charges to manage & reduce road traffic
