NEWS FOR 29-JUL (MONDAY)
1. B.S. Yediyurappa took oath as 31st Chief Minister of Karnataka. The resignation of 12 rebel Congress and 3 JDS MLAs led to the fall of Congress-JD(S) coalition govt,  led by HD Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister.

2. The Govt has set a target for installation of Rooftop Solar projects (RTS), of 40,000 MW, by 2022 in the country. 

3. Former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson took charge as new Prime Minister of United Kingdom. 

4. The new appointments of Army are as follows :-
• Lt Gen Paramjit Singh, who has vast experience in counter-terror operations, will be the next Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army.
• Lt. Gen. M.M. Naravane has been appointed as next vice-chief of armed force.
• Lt Gen Anil Chauhan will be new General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command. 
• Lt Gen AS Kler has been appointed as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South-Western Command.
• Lt Gen I S Ghuman has been appointed as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Command.
• Lt Gen RP Singh has been appointed as head of Western Command. 

5. President Trump has promised to take “substantial reciprocal action” against France after French President Emmanuel Macron signed a law which will tax American tech giants like Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Amazon.com Inc.

6. Chandrayaan-2, India’s 2nd moon mission (after Chandrayaan-1, 2008) was successfully launched by GSLV-MkIII-M1 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Besides being India’s 2nd mission to the moon it is the 1st-ever mission to be spearheaded by two women. With this India became the 1st country in the world to land a rover on unchartered Lunar South Pole. 

7. Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 313, the 5th Dornier Aircraft Squadron was commissioned into Indian Navy. The INAS 313 has been named as ‘Sea Eagle.’ It will be used for maritime surveillance, Search and Rescue Operations and to provide targeting data to weapon platforms. 

8. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated 1 km long Ujh Bridge in Kathua district and 617.40 m long Basantar Bridge in Samba district of Jammu & Kashmir. Roads and bridges in border areas will provide smooth connectivity and will also be vital for Indian Army for deployment in border areas. 

9. Indigenously produced lightweight bullet proof jacket Bhabha Kavach was launched at International Police Expo 2019 held at New Delhi. It can withstand bullets fired from an AK-47 rifle, 5.56mm INSAS bullet and 7.65mm bullet of self-loading rifle (SLR).
