NEWS FOR 19-SEPT (TUESDAY)
1.   India launched Operation Insaniyat to help Rohngiya refugees staying in Bangladesh. Under this scheme India sent relief materials like rice, sugar, pulses, salt etc.

13th Yudh Abhyas, the joint military exercise between India and the United States was carried out at the Base Lewis McChord, Washington. During the exercise, both countries sharpened tactical skills in counter terrorism and counter insurgency. The Indian side was represented by the Gorkha Rifles soldiers.

Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh, the only Indian Air Force officer to hold the 5star rank, died at the age of 98. He was cremated with full state honour in New Delhi. He was commissioned as a pilot officer in RAF at the age of 19 years. During the Indo – Pakistan war of 1965, he launched the Operation Grand Slam that targeted Akhnoor in Pakistan and changed the course of the 1965 war. He was made the first Air Chief Marshal of the Indian Air Force in recognition of the Indian Air Force’s contribution in the 1965 war. He was honoured with the rank of Marshal of the Air Force in Jan ‘2002.

The final Development Flight Trials of Astra – Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missile (BVRAAM), was successfully conducted over the Bay of Bengal. A total of seven trials were conducted against Pilotless Target Aircrafts (PTA) successfully.


5.   Indigenous artillery gun, ‘
Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS)’, jointly developed by DRDO and private sector has set a new world record in range by hitting targets at a distance of 48 km.


6.   India defeated Australia by 26 runs in the first ODI played on 17-Sept in Chennai. Hardik Pandya was declared the man of the match.

7.  
Indian ace shuttler, PV Sindhu won the South Korean super series 2017. In the final match, she defeated the world champion Nozomi Okuhara and avenged her defeat in the World Badminton championship held at Glasgow in August this year.
