India has been ranked 97th among the 118 countries surveyed in 2016, Global Hunger Index.   The Global Hunger Index is a tool used to describe the state of countries hunger situation.  About 39% of under 5 children are ‘stunted’ and there is about 4.8% mortality rate among under 5 children. Estimated 15% population is undernourished and lacks adequate food intake, both in quality and quantity.
India has received the first parcel of crude oil from Iran as a part of Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). India is planning to procure 6 million barrels  of crude oil as SPR from Iran. SPRs act as buffer against short term oil supply disruptions and global prices shocks.
The United Nations General Assembly has formally elected Antonio Guterres as the new Secretary General of United Nations. He will succeed Banki Moon, who has served two five years terms. Antonio Guterres is a Portuguese politician and diplomat, who led United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from 2005 – 2015.
The Union Cabinet approved the establishment and operationalisation of Indian Institute of Management at Jammu . It was announced as part of Prime Minister’s development package for J&K .  IIM coupled with IIT at Jammu and NIT at Srinagar will help in meeting the requirement of high quality living and education in J&K.
The 28th Indo- Indonesian Co-ordinated patrol and second bilateral maritime exercise will be held at Belwan ,Indonesia in Andaman Sea from 10th Oct – 27th  OCT’16.
China has rapped US for it’s intervention in Asia. The tension between the two powers is growing over the territorial disputes in South China Sea. Earlier to oppose China’s moves US had conducted freedom of navigation operations close to artificial islands built by China in South China Sea.
Ace Indian shooter Jitu Rai has won the 2016 Champion of Champions award of the International Shooting Sport Fedration(ISSF)for pistol shooting.
