Monthly summary of Feb

National:-
1. FCI, has sold 18.05 lakh metric tonnes wheat in open market after Govt decided to augment wheat supply in the market for cooling down sharply rising prices of wheat.
2. A seven-km undersea tunnel will be constructed for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor project in a bid to save about 12 hectares of mangrove forests in Maharashtra's Thane creek.
3. On 13 Feb, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the 14th edition of Aero India 2023 at Air Force Station, Yelahanka in Bengaluru. The theme of Aero India 2023 is *"The Runway to a Billion Opportunities'*.
4. India has just discovered massive reserve of 5.9 trillion tons of lithium in J&K. This could be a turning point for Indian Economy in manufacturing electric vehicles.
5. In a significant achievement, Indian researchers have been able to develop a material that can make stealth vehicles and covert establishments less visible to the radar. The material can absorb a wide range of radar frequencies, irrespective of the direction from which the radar signal hits the target.
6. A long awaited hub facility "Greenfield helicopter factory" where India's HAL will build a range of helicopters for the military and civilian customers was inaugurated on 6th Feb '23.
7. Union Finance Minister Mrs Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2023, on 01Feb '23.

International:-
1. Indian-American Ajaypal Singh Banga has been nominated by US to become CEO of the World Bank.
2.The QUAD Countries India, Australia, the US, and Japan have recently launched the Quad Cyber Challenge, with the main objective to improve the cyber security in the four nations.
3. Turkey & Syria were hit by a massive earthquake. India went all out to help the quake-hit nations under *'Operation Dost'.*

Defence:-
1. Indian Army has raised the first ever Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) Regiment in collaboration of Israel.
2. Indian Navy has launched its 'Arnala', the first of the eight indigenously-built anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft at the shipbuilding facility of L&T in Chennai.
3. Manufacture of over six lakh AK-203 Kalashnikov rifles in Amethi district of UP has kicked off.
4. The induction of TEJAS MK-1A in the Indian Air Force (IAF) will begin from the next year & The indigenously produced Light Combat Aircraft Mark-2 will be ready for induction by 2028.
5. Indian Army got its 'World's First' Fully Operational SWARM Drone System which is capable Of Hitting Targets 50 Km Away.
6. HAL has indigenously designed and developed a basic trainer aircraft HTT-40 to meet the primary training requirements of the Indian defence services.

Sports:-
1. Germany defeated Belgium to win its 3rd Hockey world cup title. Netherlands finished 3rd while India finished joint 9th in the FIH world cup which was held in India.
2. Indian women's cricket team won the inaugural ICC U19 T20 world cup after defeating England in the finals.
3. Novak Djokovic won his 10th Australian open title, while Aryna Sabalenka won her maiden title in the women's singles event.
4. India jumped to the third spot in the International Boxing Association's (IBA) latest world ranking. Only Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are ahead of India in the IBA's rankings. This is a monumental feat when taken into account, that India was 44th in 2019.
5. Australia defeated South Africa in the final to win the ICC women's t20 world cup 2022 held in South Africa.
