Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar in the IIT council meeting has proposed a new research scheme which proposes to identify 1000 bright BTech students who can be admitted straight into Phd programmes. The no. Of  PhD enrolments have risen from 10,497 to 27,001 in a span of 10 years. Rs. 500 Crore has been granted for the same.

View: As more No. Of bright students will be enrolled in the PhD programme, better research work will be carried out, which in turn will enhance the dtature and ranking of IITs at international level. The visit of eminent teachers to our country and our students going for short visits abroad will boost the overall knowledge threshold of Indian academia.
