SUMMARY OF APRIL

National News

1.The Indian software-as-a-service (SaaS) industry is likely to hit $100 billion mark in revenue by 2026.
2.HAL has recorded the highest ever revenue of over Rs 24000 crore in 2021-22, registering a 6% growth over the previous Yr.
3.The UPI transactions have crossed the $1 Trillion mark in FY21-22, showing major boost towards Digital India.

International News

1.WTO Director General N O Iweala is working to resolve WTO rules to facilitate India to export food grains to meet the shortages in other countries, caused by the Russia-Ukraine war.
2.IMF has anounced India's GDP growth forecast for FY23 to be 8.2%. India will thus remain the fastest growing economy in the world. IMF has cut its global growth outlook for 2022 to 3.6%. China has a growth projection of 4.4%, while US & UK are at 3.7%.
3. UK PM Boris Johnson visited India on a 2 day visit. This visit was aimed to bring in business worth 1 billion by new investments & export deals.
4.Egypt, the world's top wheat importer is going to import 1 million tonne of wheat from India.
5. Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as Pakistan’s new PM, following the removal of Imran Khan in a vote of no confidence.
6. The 2+2 ministerial dialogue was held between the Defence & Foreign ministers of India & US, to boost the strategic partnership between the two countries.
7.Russia’s membership to the Human Rights Council (HRC), to which it was elected in 2020, was suspended by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
8.Sri Lanka is undergoing major financial crisis. It needs about $3 billion in external assistance withing the next six months.
9.India is going to import 100 tonnes of natural uranium and 133 units of fuel assemblies in the next fiscal year. Indian govt has entered into an agreement with Russia for the supply of fuel for Russian reactors. India also entered into a uranium Purchase Agreement with Canada, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan.
10.India and Nepal have discussed the *Kalapani border dispute* which erupted in Nov 2019.
11.A consignment of 40,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India reached Sri Lanka on 2nd Apr, the fourth such assistance from New Delhi.
12.India & Russia will soon carry out their financial trnsactions in *rupee-ruble*, bypassing the usage of US dollar.

Defence News

1. Lt.Gen Manoj Pande, has taken over as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), on April 30. He is the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to become COAS.
2.India has carried out a successful test firing of the Helina anti-tank guided missile from the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter.
3. Indian Army has recently inducted Bharat Forge's Kalyani Multi Role Mine Protected Armoured Vehicles in Pune.
4.Vagsheer, the last Scorpene-class submarine under Project-75, was launched on April 20.
5.IAF has received the last batch of five AH-64E (I) Apache Guardian attack helicopters from America. In total, 22 helicopters were ordered by India.
6.India has successfully flight tested *Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR)* booster, a missile system. The SFDR-based propulsion enables the missile to intercept aerial threats at very long range at supersonic speed.
7. Indigenously developed, *'Dhruv'* Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) MKIII were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard.
8. DRDO has carried out 2 successful tests of the Army's version of the *medium-range surface-to-air missile* (MRSAM), developed jointly with Israel, in Mar 2022.
9.Cabinet Committee on Security* (CCS) has approved the purchase of 15 indigenously developed *Light Combat Helicopters* (LCH) from HAL, at a cost of Rs 3,887 Cr. IAF will get 10 & the Army will get 5 helicopters each.
10. TATA has started deliveries of *WhAP- Wheeled Armoured Amphibious Platform*, 8 x 8 Armoured vehicles to the CRPF, Jointly developed by TATA & DRDO.
