NEWS FOR 11th-APR (MONDAY)


1. Russia’s membership to the Human Rights Council (HRC), to which it was elected in 2020, was suspended  after the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted, 93 to 24, with 58 abstentions, including India, to adopt a resolution suspending Moscow from the UN body.

2. Sri Lanka will need about $3 billion in external assistance within the next six months to help restore supplies of essential items, including fuel and medicines, to manage a severe economic crisis.

3. HAL has entered into an MoU with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), to convert Civil (Passenger) aircraft to Multi Mission Tanker Transport (MMTT) aircraft in India for air refueling with cargo and transport capabilities.

4. India will import solar energy from Nepal and the Himalayan country will also join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) led by India.

5. India has successfully flight tested *Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR)* booster, a missile system. The SFDR-based propulsion enables the missile to intercept aerial threats at very long range at supersonic speeds.

6. Govt recently handed over transfer of technology documents of DRDO-developed Counter Drone System to many private Indian industries. The companies include Adani Defence Systems and Larsen & Toubro. Counter Drone System can detect, track and identify airborne drones using multiple sensors.

7. India’s first underwater tunnel for metro connectivity in between Howrah and Maldah will be fully functional by 2023. Of the 16.6 km long east-west stretch, 520 metres will be under the river bed of Hooghly river.
