NEWS FOR 1-NOV (MONDAY)
1. India successfully tested Agni-V missile from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off the Odisha coast. This is a significant step towards boosting the nuclear deterrence against China. The surface to surface ballistic missile, has a three-stage solid-fuelled engine, which is capable of striking targets at ranges up to 5,000 kilometres, with a very high degree of accuracy.  
2. The govt has recently launched the Krishi UDAN scheme to focus on transporting perishable food products from the hilly areas, northeastern states and tribal areas.  
3. On 25 Oct ‘21, the Sudanese military General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, took control of the govt in a military coup. Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was put under house arrest.  
4. IAF & DRDO have successfully flight tested the country's first indigenously developed Long-Range Bomb (LRB) from a Sukhoi-30 fighter jet. The development of LR Bomb, with a range of 100 kms, will improve the self dependence, as also save a great amount of revenue.  
5. The DRDO has conducted a successful trial of the indigenously developed Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) in the Pokhran Ranges. SAAW belongs to the glide bomb category, weighing around 125 kg. It is capable of engaging all types of ground targets up to a range of 100 kms.  
6. PM Modi dedicated 7 new defence companies to the nation. These companies are Munitions India Ltd (MIL), Armoured vehicles Nigam Ltd (AVANI), Advanced Weapons & Equipment India Ltd (AWE India), Troop Comforts Ltd (TCL), Yantra India Ltd (YIL), India Optel Ltd (IOL), & Gliders India Limited (GIL).
