1. India's GDP for the first quarter for FY22 has soared to a record high of 20.1%.  Although the jump is mainly due to a weak base last year, but it is definitely a great bounce back. 
2. According to reports, Reliance Industries is planning to acquire the REC Group, the largest solar panel manufacturer in Europe, from state-run China National Chemical Corp (ChemChina). The acquisition is expected to cost around $1.2 billion. If it happens it will be yet another milestone for our country.
3. India has approved a new DNA based COVID vaccine ZyCoV-D, which is administered into the skin without an injection & has been found to be 67% protective against symptomatic COVID-19 in clinical trials. It is likely to be started to be administered this month. It is yet another boost for our country in its fight against Covid under the Make in India initiative.
4. India has won 19 Medals i.e 5 Golds, 8 Silvers & 6 Bronze medals at the ongoing Paralympics. This is by far India's best ever medal tally at this event. This comes after India had given their best ever performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by securing 1 Gold, 2 Silvers & 4 Bronze, a total of 7 medals earlier. This shows a upturn as far as India's performance at International level sports is concerned & in the coming years we can hope for better things if we focus at grassroot levels.
5. The Fifth edition of Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Training Exercise, KAZIND-21 is being conducted in Kazakhstan, from August 30 to September 11. Also a contingent of 200 of our Army personnel are participating in the multinational Exercise ZAPAD 2021 being held at Russia from September 3 to 16. Recently the Indian Navy had taken part in Ex.MALABAR-21, at Guam, an Island Territory of the USA. This reflects the growing stature of the Indian Armed forces.
6. The First-ever G20 Ministerial Conference on Women's Empowerment was held at Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy.
7. Five terrorist groups representing Assam's Karbi tribe have signed a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the state government, in hopes of a return of peace after decades of violence. The "historic" Karbi Anglong Peace Accord involves the laying down of arms by members of the community and the government spending up to Rs 1,000 crore over the next five years towards development.
8. India has defeated England in the ongoing test series to take a 2-1 lead in the 5 match test series.
9. On 31st of Aug, the Sri Lankan President has declared an economic emergency to contain soaring inflation after a steep fall in the value of the country's currency caused a spike in food prices.
10. The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRFA) have offered a peace settlement and want to amicably resolve things amid continuous attacks by the Taliban, Pakistani and Al Qaeda forces in Panjshir. Fighters made up of anti-Taliban militia and former Afghan security forces have been holding out against the insurgents ever since they took over Kabul in August. ‘Acting’ President Amrullah Saleh, and Ahmad Massoud have been leading efforts against the militant group.
