NEWS FOR 16-FEB (MONDAY)
1.     ISRO published its annual report 2019-20. According to the report, the Indian Space Research Organization will launch 10 Earth Observation Satellites in 2020-21. It includes the first Geo Imaging Satellite, GISAT-1.
2.     The Portugal President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is on a 4-day visit to India on 14th feb to 17th feb. The countries have signed agreements on culture, transport, invesnbn bmnvmnvtment, industrial and intellectual property rights. Agreements were also signed on developing a world class national maritime heritage complex at Lothal, Gujrat.
3.     Indian Navy is preparing itself for the biggest multilateral naval exercise to be conducted in the Indian Ocean Region. The Exercise is to be conducted under the theme “Synergy across the Seas”. The exercise will act as a common platform for the commanders to exchange their challenges.
4.     The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre developed a new bullet proof jacket called Bhabha Kavach. The jackets are to be used by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The Jacket is capable of stopping hard steel core bullets that are fired from AK 47 and self-loading rifles and bolt action rifles.
5.     India aims to buy Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) from the US in order to modernize its armed forces. It will help India to counter threats posed by air attacks. The cost of the system is estimated as 1.86 billion USD.
6.     The Indian Army’s College of Military Engineering with a private firm developed the gun shot locators called “Parth”. The device was showcased at DefExpo 2020. The cost of the device developed is around 3 lakhs whereas the imported ones cost around Rs 65 lakhs. The device is capable of locating a bullet from a distance of 400 metres and will help to neutralize the target quickly.
7.     The International Hockey Federation named the Indian Hockey captain Manpreet Singh as Player of the Year, 2019. Manpreet is the first Indian to win this title.
8.     The Bangladesh team beat India to win the ICC under 19 title. Bangladesh won the title for the first time in its history.
